At the time of construction, this now 89-year old facility was recognized as the top industrial construction project in Western Washington. Today, it is the largest military fuel facility in the continental United States. The fuel depot is used primarily for Naval jet fuel storage and dispensing to Navy fuel tankers for air craft carrier jets. Marpac has worked at this facility continuously for over ten years. Projects designs were a collaborative effort between Marpac staff and the facility engineers. Work included new docks, fuel containment systems, fuel dispensing systems, new fuel tanks, renovation of fuel tanks, fuel piping systems, fire protection systems, roads and utilities, office building renovations as well as mechanical and electrical upgrades.
Challenges of this site included working around the Navy’s fueling schedule, hazardous materials, working in confined tunnels and fuel tanks, as well as performing work on the water, under the water and areas only accessible by water, subject to tides.
Our work at Manchester was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington and resulted in several awards for Industrial Construction.back to Our Projects›
